Problem Note 70103: The SAS® Management Console Schedule Manager might take a long time to display a list of flows

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

When many flows and deployed jobs are defined in the SAS Management Console Schedule Manager, it might take a long time for a list of flows to be displayed.

Some workarounds to circumvent the issue include one or more of the following changes to the JavaArgs1 option in the SASHome\SASManagementConsole\9.4\sasmc.ini file. However, note that the following options might not help in all cases:

  • Increase the -Xmx option, which enables you to use more memory.
  • Add -Dschedulemgr.flowlist.fast=true, which enables you to gather the deployed jobs and deployed flows in one call to the metadata server. Note that this change requires more memory but can be quicker than the other options. However, if memory is low, then -Dschedulemgr.flowlist.fast=true can become slower. As a result, you might need to increase the -Xmx option.
  • Add -Dschedulemgr.flowlist.light=true, which reduces the initial amount of SAS metadata about a deployed flow and a deployed job that is returned to SAS Management Console. Note that this option requires less memory and enables the flow list to be displayed more quickly. However, when you select a flow, an additional query is sent to obtain the metadata, which was not returned when you first selected the Schedule Manager plug-in. Therefore, switching between flows can take longer than without this option.

Note: In order to pick up the changes to the sasmc.ini file, restart SAS Management Console.

For example, if you change JavaArgs1 to use all three of the above options, the new JavaArgs1 option should look similar to the following:

JavaArgs_1=-Xmx2048m -Dschedulemgr.flowlist.fast=true -Dschedulemgr.flowlist.light=true

Click the Hot Fix tab in this note to access the hot fix for this issue.

After applying the hot fix, ensure that sasmc.ini file does not contain -Dschedulemgr.flowlist.light=true.
